Weight has always been an issue for me. I have battled over eating and sometimes over not eating, gaining and dropping large amounts of weight. Since I started my desk job almost two years ago, I have gained nearly 50 pounds and have only managed to lose 10 after trying for six months.
This morning as I read my Bible, the plan I’m reading took me to Psalm 139. These are very familiar verses for me, but they really struck home this morning. I have been so concerned with how I view myself, which is very negatively, that I have forgotten how God views me. I am His creation, and not by mistake. Psalm 139:13-16 tells that God lovingly created us with great intent. How would it change your perspective of yourself if, when you looked in the mirror, rather than immediately going to your faults as society has taught us, instead you looked at yourself and said, “I have been lovingly created by God.” How does that translate to how we think of ourselves and care for ourselves?
I challenge you for the next 24 days to look in the mirror each day and say “I have been lovingly created by God.” Write it on a sticky note and put it on the mirror to help quell those negative thoughts. Secondly, I urge you to commit to memorizing Psalm 139. There are 24 verses in this chapter, a verse for each day. Let us view ourselves as part of God’s good creation.
