Welcome back to Day 28 of 31 Days to a Life of Purpose!
So, let me tell you about yesterday. I had bought discs for a cookie press that were fall themed – pumpkin, leaf, turkey, spider, etc. I planned to make spritz cookies and package them in little bags to give to the neighbors. Carmen and I spent two hours making these cookies. They looked so cute! And tasted AWFUL! These are not the kind of cookies you want to give to your friends. Making them was a huge mess, and then they turned out so terrible.
Then, after everyone was in bed, I was cleaning up the kitchen. I had just finished and was about to turn out the lights when I saw something brown in the floor. Thinking it was cookie dough (though I’d swept the floor), I bent down to pick it up, and it HOPPED! There was a frog in the kitchen. I had to catch it so I could put it outside. As soon as I released it, I remembered Carmen has a pet frog, so I had to catch the frog again. Luckily, her frog hadn’t escaped, so the little guy was released into the woods, again.
Needless to say, this is not the evening I had planned. Making cookies for the neighbors, spending time with Carmen – that was my agenda. She and I did get to spend several hours together. After our cookie disaster, we worked a puzzle together. I ended the night with a clean kitchen, which is always one of my goals. I touched a frog – definitely not one of my goals, but it makes for a hilarious story.
Choosing to live with purpose doesn’t mean things will be Pinterest perfect all the time. Actually they probably won’t be most of the time. If we are looking for perfect, we’ll come up short almost every time. My list of goals doesn’t include perfection, but it does include purpose, and that is something I can manage daily, as long as I put in the effort. It may be messy. It may be unpredictable. But it will be worth it.
