In the last few weeks, I’ve spent a lot of time on writing. I’ve been trying miracle mornings, keeping a journal, started a bullet journal and worked on both my blog and my book. While I love these exercises in words, I have really desired a variety of artistic expressions. For this reason, I have come up with the idea of the Crafty Afternoon.
I have really wanted to spend time in artistic pursuits lately. Several of my current goals involve craft projects to be completed. I went shopping Saturday and ended up at Hobby Lobby. I left with silk flowers for a fall arrangement and patterns, fabric, and thread to design embroidery. Then, I had a coupon for Barnes and noble where I bought some books on drawing and an afternoon tea cookbook.
Clearly I am dying to get creative, yet I keep not making time for it. I’ve decided to start devoting a few afternoons a week to crafty pursuits. Follow along on Instagram as I use #craftyafternoon to share my endeavors.
I have a variety of projects I’m hoping to complete including making a quiet book for my nephews birthday and making some paintings for Christmas gifts. Part of my 30 Before 30 goals included finishing my quilt (that I’ve been working on for 15 years), completing 25 Pinterest projects, making 25 new recipes, learning photography, completing Craftsy courses, sewing my own clothing, and more.
In addition to these, I have some decor I want to update in my house, I’ve been watching YouTube videos on how to watercolor, and as previously mentioned, I now have supplies for floral arrangements, embroidery and drawing. I’m really excited about all of the options and I hope to make time for the many different things I’d like to try or creative goals I want to complete.
My idea for the crafty afternoon is to set aside a block of time, hopefully at least 3 hours or so (considering all I would like to accomplish by the end of the year) and dedicate this time solely to focused creativity. Whether I sew, paint, draw or bake, I want to be exercising my creativity. Right now, I don’t plan to have specific days set aside, but those may naturally work themselves into my schedule. I would like to manage 2-3 afternoons where I can devote my time to these many projects.
Do you have projects you want to complete or new mediums you would like to try? Do you have thousands of saved pins you haven’t had time to try? I’d love to hear what creative pursuits you have on your mind! I’d also love for you to join me on Instagram with your own #craftyafternoon. You don’t have to devote such large chunks of time as I plan to to being creative. You may only have 30 minutes, but use it well. Maybe it won’t be in the afternoon either. Maybe your best time to carve out is in the morning or evening. Do whatever works for you, but I challenge you to set aside time to really express your creativity and explore new art forms that have interested you. It’s easy to get trapped into saving other’s ideas and never creating on our own. I don’t want to do that anymore.
