I am so excited to share my home with you today! Christmas is my absolute favorite time of year. I especially love decorating for it, which my dear husband (of four months!) is finding out. I want to give you inspiration for decorating your own home beautifully. Next week, I’m going to be talking more specifically about tips on decorating Christmas trees. You can sign up for emails so you don’t miss it!
Let’s start with the outside entry. I’ve kept it simple with a wreath, a Christmas doormat, and two small trees. The wreath and doormat both came from Target this year. I have a similar Smith and Hawken wreath in ivory that includes greenery that I love for spring and summer. When I found this beautiful red wreath for half price, I knew I had to get it. It’s made of birchwood spiraled into roses and is one of my favorite decor items. I wrapped the trees in ribbon to dress them up a little. There are two columns on our porch that I may wrap with lights and/or ribbon in the future, but it’s not happening this year.
I’ve kept the interior entryway simple because this area tends to get so cluttered and we are still working on storage solutions for the house. I got the two ornament wreaths on the double doors at an auction for $2. The wreath hangers came from Wal-Mart. I have loved decorating with reindeer this year, which I attribute to the many deer I so often spot in our neighborhood. The wreath on the coat closet door was only $2 at Michael’s. I added the red ribbon and simple bow myself. Lastly, I have added a hot chocolate station to the beverage cart that sits just around the corner from the kitchen and opposite the dining room. The kids love to stop by here. I added a small holly plant to complete the look.
I’ve kept the kitchen simple with Christmas hand towels in a natural color with adorable sayings that I found at Wal-Mart. I have a few Christmas dishes that I bring out for entertaining that are part of the Food Network holiday collection from Kohl’s that were a gift from my mom. This year’s collection features…reindeer! I might need to add to my collection.
The living room, which is open to the kitchen, features a pencil tree wrapped with ribbon. I picked up the pillows and throw at Steinmart. The throw again features reindeer and brings out the red theme I have for this year. Changing pillows and throws are an inexpensive way to update decor anytime of the year.
The dining room is the main display. Here, we have two trees one 6.5′ (on a box to add height) and one 4′ tree that displays my husband’s collection of White House Christmas ornaments he receives from an aunt each year.
The small buffet features an assortment of Christmas tree decorations and other knick-knacks. I love combining them in this space that otherwise goes unused. Above it, I’ve hung two pictures from Dayspring.
I’ve kept the larger buffet simple with an arrangement of greenery, a nativity, and these three tea light holders I got from Bath and Body Works many years ago when I worked there during college.
I love the table. I don’t usually decorate it more than the large ampersand tray in the middle (from Mary and Martha) which is there all the time. I love the Joy to the World bowl in the center, which I picked up from Pier 1 Imports a couple of years ago on after-Christmas clearance. The tablecloth is fabric I picked up at Joann’s when it was on sale 50% off. It is regularly very expensive ($15/yard), but I was able to combine it with their 25% off all items including sales coupon making it very affordable. The chargers come from A.C. Moore and the napkins are from Target. I made the napkin rings myself and love their festivity.
My favorite area might be the reading area in our master bedroom. I use this spot most mornings and some evenings. I kept the pencil tree simple with cream-colored ribbon that matches the decor of the room and used mostly blue, cream, silver, and gold ornaments. On the side table I recently made over, I included a beautiful little nativity made with the word”Joy” which has been a personal theme for me.
Lastly, I added some festivity to the kids’ shared bathroom with window clings on the mirror which they love.
I hope you have enjoyed your glimpse into our little world of holiday cheer! While I have decorated quite a few areas, most of the displays are small and add just a bit of Christmas to each room. The dining room, located in the center of our home, received the most attention in decorating. I tried to keep with a theme of red and natural colors this years, which I accomplished largely through different ribbons and fabric that I found inexpensively at various craft stores and some of the ribbon even came from Costco.
