In January, I posted my 30 Before 30 Goals. Today, I wanted to provide a goals update on how those are coming along. I haven’t made as much progress as I would have liked, but I have really started focusing on it in the last few weeks.
One thing I have definitely learned with goals is that you have to keep reminding yourself of them, especially with a list like this with 30 specific goals. I can’t remember all 30 all the time, so I have to keep reviewing them. I’ve started a habit tracker in my bullet journal, and reviewing my goals daily is one of the habits I am trying to create.
So here’s My 30 Before 30 Goals update:
1. Read the entire Bible.
I am making progress on this. I have read around 35% so far, but this is one goal I have really started working on.
2. Commit 50 Bible verses to memory.
I haven’t done so great with this because I have struggled to settle on 50 verses. I’m going to start focusing on a verse at a time rather than trying to decide all 50 at once.
3. Finish the unread books on my shelf.
Hahahahaha…
4. Complete all the Craftsy/e-courses I have bought.
The furthest I’ve gotten on this is making a task in my bullet journal to compile a list of the courses I have.
5. Complete 25 Pinterest projects.
I’ve done maybe two, but I’ve collected several pallets, and my new neighbor is excited about helping me turn those into projects. Follow me on Instagram to see projects as I complete them.
6. Take an art class.
I plan to take an oil painting class at my local community center that starts in October. I’ve also been watching Youtube videos on watercolor at my sister-in-law’s recommendation. It’s such a fun medium.
7. Finish my quilt.
Nope.
8. Study photography and learn how to use my camera.
Nope.
9. Sew 5 pieces of clothing for myself.
Nope…again.
10. Try 25 new recipes.
I have made several, but I haven’t kept good track of them. I’ll share more in a future post with some of my favorites.
11. Learn to make French macaroons.
Not yet.
12. Learn different ways of making coffee.
Yes! I bought an Aeropress, which I love, and a pourover set. I also bought a grinder to use my own beans.
13. Successfully make a pie from scratch.
Not yet, but fall is coming – the perfect time for apple pie.
14. Grow vegetables.
Yes! I grew tomatoes (which are technically a fruit but I’m counting it). I also grew some herbs. It was going well until the crazy hot summer and our traveling quite a bit. I’ll be better prepared next year.
15. Learn to coupon/meal plan to save money.
I haven’t done a lot on the couponing, but I have been meal planning. I have focused on fresh foods, which often don’t have coupons.
16. Take a Zumba class.
I want to, but I’m still a bit nervous about this one. I’m going to do it by the end of the year.
17. Run in a 5K.
Not yet, but I’m working on getting in better shape and am looking at my options for the fall.
18. Get in the best shape of my life!
I’m actively working on this. I’ve been exercising daily and eating a much healthier diet. I’m slowly seeing progress.
19. Develop a habit of rising early.
I’m still trying. I’m on a medication where a major side affect is drowsiness. This has really hindered my progress, but I’m hoping to come off the medicine soon or at least lower the dosage.
20. Own a pair of fancy heels I can actually walk in.
I’ve been having a lot of soreness in my feet, so right now I’m focusing on finding ways to help that. I did by a fancy pair of shoulder duster earrings that were way outside my comfort zone, but I love them.
21. Decorate an entire room the way I want.
My dining room is so close. I would really like to repaint the walls and recover the cushions of the chairs, but other than that, it’s done. Carmen makes dinner on Wednesday nights (so cute to see my 10-year-old’s excitement over planning out meals and cooking) and she always wants to make it a candlelight dinner in the dining room.
22. Finish cleaning out my room at my parents’ house.
One of these days…
23. Frame my degrees.
Not yet.
24. Complete my wedding photo album.
Still haven’t printed all the pictures.
25. Make my blog into a business.
I have been working more intentionally behind the scenes, so fingers crossed.
26. Volunteer.
I am a literacy and math volunteer at Carmen’s school. I would still like to identify some other opportunities.
27. Ride in a hot air balloon or a helicopter.
This one is on hold after crashes that have happened this year, including a helicopter crash near my hometown in Tennessee.
28. Finish my book.
It probably won’t be done, but I have been working on it.
29. Go to New York City.
Yes, and I loved it! My husband and I went in May. We saw Phantom of the Opera on Broadway and went to the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. We could see Times Square from our hotel window. I walked through Cental Park and visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We had an aerial view of the Statue of Liberty as our plane landed. We were only there a couple of days while Mark attended a conference. As we were boarding the plane home, I started thinking of all the things I didn’t see, so I definitely want to go back.
30. Make a list of 40 Goals Before 40.
I’ve started working on my list, and I’m pretty excited about it. There are so many possibilities for the future, and I still have time to pursue my dreams.
So that’s my goals update. Again, not as much progress as I would like, but there is still plenty of time to make it happen. I want to focus on the things I have accomplished and am still working on rather than focusing on what I didn’t do. It was a lofty list for one year, especially with the craziness of moving and finding the help we need for my stepson who was diagnosed with PTSD stemming from the death of his mother and other close family friends.
Hopefully we’ll meet back here next week when I share more ideas for pursuing life with intention!
