What are your priorities? Does how you spend your time accurately reflect your priorities?
I want you to get a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle. Write “My Priorities” at the top on the left. Take a few minutes and list out your top 10 priorities in no particular order. It’s okay to use broad categories (faith, family, etc.). Don’t worry if you can’t come up with 10, just make sure to include as many as you can think of.
Next, write “How I spend my time” on the top of the right side. Spend a few minutes on this list. Try to include everything – tv, social media, working, kids’ school stuff and extracurriculars, cooking, cleaning, everything. Next to each item, jot down approximately how much time you spend on that activity each day.
Now compare your lists. What ways do you spend your time that don’t match your priorities?
Your time is limited and is therefore valuable. To reduce stress, you most likely need to eliminate some things and cut down on the amount of time you spend on others. Think about your priorities. What things do you need to cut down on so that you can focus on your priorities? To reduce stress, we need to reduce the amount of busyness in our lives.
You want to make sure that you are spending your time wisely on the things that matter to you. What are some things that you can do to make better use of your time so that how you spend it reflects your priorities? Try to think of at least 5 steps you can start taking now to make better use of your time.
When it comes to reducing stress in our lives, we need to make the most of the time we have by using it for the things that are important to us!
