Welcome back to Day 15 of 31 Days to a Life of Purpose!
Today, we are continuing our discussions on habits and how to prepare for a successful day. Yesterday, I gave you tips on creating an evening routine, which is so important for setting your day up for success. Today, we are going to talk about morning routines and what habits a morning routine can have to start your day off on the right foot.
An evening routine is so helpful in preparing for a successful day, but a morning routine is also essential. Morning is “go-time” for your day, and if you start off behind, it will be difficult to catch up. Here are some recommendations to include when developing your morning routine:
- Wake up before your kids.
One of the keys to the success of your day is starting out with the right mindset. This requires intentionality and is difficult when small humans are vying for your attention.
- Start the day with prayer.
This again helps to get your day started off with the right mindset. You may want to include bible study during this time, too, especially if you work outside the home. I usually do bible study after taking the kids to school, but am trying to make morning prayer a habit before I get out of bed.
- Eat a healthy breakfast.
I love breakfast! Unfortunately, there are a lot of unhealthy breakfast options that contain only carbs and sugar. While they taste good, those options won’t give your body the fuel it really needs. The point of breakfast is to break the fast after a long period of not eating during the night. In order for me to eat a healthy breakfast, I have to have healthy options available to me, so this starts by buying healthy foods. I don’t want to spend a lot of time cooking breakfast, so I have found several easy options that require little or no prep: a piece of fruit, whole wheat toast or English muffins with natural peanut butter, and a hard-boiled or fried egg (I use a non-stick skillet so that I don’t need any oil to actually cook the egg). Smoothies are a great option to that take only a little more time.
- Ignore your phone/social media/email.
It is easy to wake up in the morning and grab your phone before you even get out of bed. Often our phones serve as our alarm clocks so we already have them in hand when we first wake up. Then the temptation begins to start checking emails or social media. We can waste significant time before we’re even out of bed. To truly begin your day with purpose, avoid these time-wasters until you have accomplished all you need to for the morning. I’ve heard a lot about the impact social media has on our time, and one of the things that stuck out to me was are we living our lives, or are we reading about others? That really convicted me to put down the phone and focus on being present.
I hope these tips from yesterday and today will help you with developing a morning and evening routine that allows you to start your day intentionally and with less stress.
I would love to hear what other habits you have incorporated into your routines to help make for a successful day!
