Welcome back to 31 Days to Less Stress! I hope you have started to identify ways of eliminating stress in your life as you pursue the life God has planned for you.
We live in a society that idolizes perfection. We see this in magazines as they airbrush away any imperfections in models’ photos. We see this in how those who walk the red carpet are critiqued. We praise the supermom who seems to have everything together. We want to be like her so we keep trying to gain that level of perfection.
We have even placed the Proverbs 31 woman on a pedestal – she cooks, she cleans, she grows her own food and makes her own clothes. We can easily get caught up in all we are doing and perfection can become our god.
We must remember that the Proverbs 31 woman was not great because of all that she did. She was praised as “a woman who fears the Lord” (Prov 31:30). This quality surpasses any skill she has or activity she does. It is the basis for everything she does.
Jesus is the only person to ever live who was capable of perfection. When we strive only for perfection, we miss the mark. We should strive to love God and to learn His teachings that we may follow them. When our greatest goal is to love God, our actions will become an overflow of that love.
The Proverbs 31 woman was impressive because she loved and feared the Lord and her actions exemplified this in her life. She was known for all she did and was an asset to her husband because of her obedience to God.
When you think about all you do, what comes from a heart that loves the Lord? Are there things you do because you feel obligated or because you want others to notice? They might not be bad things but you are doing them for the wrong reasons so they are causing you unnecessary stress. Continue to weed these things out of your schedule, or ask God to give you the right motivation.
