Welcome back to 31 Days to Less Stress? I hope you are enjoying the series so far. We have made it through the halfway point! Today we are going to discuss our hopes and dreams.
What are your hopes? What dreams do you have that you would like to accomplish? Have you always wanted to write a book, or learn to sew, or learn a foreign language? Maybe you want to take a cake decorating class. Or have you ever considered volunteering? Have you wanted to lose weight and become healthier but haven’t had the time and energy to put into that goal?
In our busy lives, we can easily get sidetracked from pursuing any hopes we had for the future. God created an incredible world that we live in. There is so much to learn and do, but it is easy to stop learning and enjoying the world when we get into the routine of our lives.
What dreams do you have that you could start working on today? If reading is something you want to do but never have time for, set a goal of reading one book a month. If you are wanting to start volunteering, add researching volunteer opportunities to your schedule and then make a deadline for yourself to actually start.
In order for your dreams to become reality, you have to act on them. Take some time to brainstorm ideas and then come up with an action plan for accomplishing your dream. Working towards a goal can help motivate you and can help reduce stress by giving you renewed energy and excitement.
Help yourself stay focused by sharing your goals with others. Get a friend to join you. Let your kids see you working towards your goals. Discuss it with your spouse or a friend.
Feeling that we aren’t accomplishing anything or that we will never get to do the things we have hoped for can increase our stress levels because we can become focused on all the opportunities that are passing us by. It is important that we have a sense of purpose and that we take time to embrace new opportunities. It is equally important not to become so focused on seeking after other things that we neglect our current roles. Evaluate your goals in light of your current roles and choose goals that can be a benefit to those roles, or that won’t cause you to neglect those roles.
Lastly, create SMART goals:
- Specific
- Measurable
- Attainable
- Realistic
- Timely
Enjoy the process! Get motivated! Pursue your dreams!
