Welcome back to Day 5 of 31 Days to Living on Purpose!
Today we are finally going to work on setting goals. First, I want to explain why goals are so important to living on purpose. When looking at synonyms for purpose, the following words were listed:
- ambition
- aspiration
- determination
- direction
- intent
- plan
- reason
- target
A lack of purpose implies aimlessness, distraction, and lack of planning or progress. Busyness can often lead to a lack of purpose, because we are so busy that we don’t realize our actions aren’t leading us anywhere.
The author of Hebrews uses this same imagery when He says, “Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” He identifies our faith as a race. A race has a definite finish line or goal. When we have an end goal in mind, we can continue with purpose. We get off track when we lose sight of the goal. Goals give us purpose because they provide direction for our actions with a target we can pursue with determination. When we feel stuck, goals can get us moving again.
I want you to brainstorm goals by category. What would you like to accomplish in each of these areas:
- Business
- Faith
- Family/Friends
- Finances
- Home
- Self-Care (including health, fitness, personal goals, and making time for yourself)
- and Other
As we go through this week, we are going to work on refining these goals and making action plans. Today, I just want you to brainstorm ideas. Don’t forget to dream BIG! I’ve included a printable to help you with your brainstorming:
Also, if you haven’t already entered, I’m giving away Sarah Mae’s latest book Longing for Paris: One Woman’s Search for Joy, Beauty, and Adventure-Right Where She Is. The giveaway is open through October 8, 2015.
