Welcome back to 31 Days to Less Stress! After the last two days exercises, you might be feeling more stressed by the changes you need to make. It’s okay! I promise! We’ll get through this! In order to reduce stress, you need to be aware of what’s causing it. I thought today would be a good time to talk about ways to de-stress. Keep reading for 10 tips on reducing stress.
1. Pray!!!
1 Thessalonians 4:17 tells us to “Pray without ceasing,” but sometimes we get caught up in other things. Take the time to have a conversation with the Creator.
2. Listen to music.
Sometimes it’s nice to just get lost in the rhythm. Professionals always recommend soothing classical music, but upbeat music can work, too! I have a playlist of hymns that I have used for several years, and they always seem to help. Feel free to sing along!
3. Take a walk.
Exercise can help work out the tension in your muscles. I’ve had some stressful management positions in the past.. When tension ran high, I would hit the pavement for a couple of laps around the parking lot. Fresh air and movement can do wonders. Can’t go outside – jog in place, go up and down some steps, stretch. Work those muscles!
4. Breathe deeply.
Take a few deep breaths. Try to focus on nothing but your breathing. This will help clear your mind so you can start fresh.
5. Call a friend.
Sometimes it helps just to talk with someone who know you well. Give your best friend a call. Or your mom! Mom’s always good to listen!
6. Laugh.
Youtube crazy cat videos. Tickle your kids. Laughing makes everything seem brighter and releases tension.
7. Give a hug.
Hugs release oxytocin and serotonin which boost your mood and release tension when you hug for several seconds. So, grab someone you love and hold on tight!
8. Light a candle.
Choose candles in soothing scents to help you relax.
9. Drink some tea.
Wrapping your hands around a warm cup of tea and taking time to enjoy it can help you relax. Don’t like tea? Try hot chocolate, apple cider, or even coffee (decaf would probably be best). Take a moment to enjoy it without worrying about the to-do list.
10. Write down your thoughts.
Journaling can be therapeutic. Take time to write down how you’re feeling. It can help you find clarity and get your mind organized. Don’t like to write? Try doodling. It still stimulates the brain.
These are just a few things you can do to help relieve some stress quickly so you can be more effective in your day.
