Welcome back to 31 Days to Less Stress! I hope you enjoy rest today and can just slow down and praise God today.
This weekend I heard Sophie Hudson give a beautiful talk on Luke 1. She was mostly focusing on Elizabeth and Mary’s relationship but what struck me were Mary’s words in Luke 1. She says:
My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”What a beautiful passage. I have loved this passage over the years, but this weekend I just thought, “Wow, this is still the same God we serve today.” We are His people and He still wants great things for us.
Does your soul magnify the Lord? I want mine to do so. I want to rejoice in the Savior as Mary did. I looked up the word “magnify” in the dictionary and it said “to make greater or larger” but also “to praise highly.” When I think of what it means to magnify the Lord, I ask myself, is God the greatest thing in my life? Does my praise come from the overflow in my heart for my value and love of God?
We serve an amazing God and He has not forgotten His people. He knows the orphan. He sees the widow. He loves the mama who is at the end of her rope, surrounded by little people and big messes. He cherishes the single girl, so desperate to share her life with someone.
Today, let’s magnify the Lord with our very souls. Let’s remember how He has loved us so greatly.
